The Open Review Quarterly is a collaboratively edited literary journal on modern culture. Imagine shaking off some layers of self, going outside to look at a plant or otherwise finding brief clarity, then extracting some pearl of resonating personal truth to share. We've brought together over 50 authors and produced over 100 new pieces of writing.
Co-CEO, Cofounder Model View Culture
Feminist Technology Collective, Inc. is an independent technology and media startup based in San Francisco, California that builds infrastructure to serve technologists and makers in diverse communities. It publishes Model View Culture (modelviewculture.com), an independent media platform focused on the intersection of technology, culture and diversity. Fast Company called Model View Culture "a new tech publication the internet actually needs" and it was mentioned in the New York Times. I designed, built, and maintained the rails app that runs the publication, as well as designing the editorial processes for working with 10-20 authors at once. I also orchestrated media events with hundreds of attendees, and did the design for the Quarterly, a physical book series, as well as managing the shipping operations for getting it to our subscribers. I left the company in May 2014.
Designer, Data Scientist FutureAdvisor
I helped build FutureAdvisor a digital investment advisor that provides unbiased advice and automated portfolio management. I split my time between analysis of large data sets (using python, pandas, numpy, scipy, and matplotlib), creating interactive data visualizations with d3.js, a/b testing, and front end UX/UI design. My work for FutureAdvisor was featured on CNN Money, WSJ's MoneyWatch, and Lifehacker.
Product Manager, UX/UI Designer Habit Labs
Habit Labs was a startup focused on building behavior change web apps. I worked with Buster Benson on product design for Budge, a mobile app that helped people start new healthy habits, such as pushups or flossing. My role was project manager, where I set short-term and long-term development goals, informed by analysis of user behavior and user interviews. I also became the lead UX/UI designer and created Budge's well loved snail persona.
Master's Research in Public Health University of Washington
Public Health school is the intersection of social sciences and biological science. I designed and implemented studies focusing on risk analysis in human populations. My thesis research was a differential equations model of chemical transport through human skin.
Electrical Engineering & Studio Art Vanderbilt University
I majored in Electrical Engineering, where I developed a rigorous analytical and problem solving background and gained programming experience. My coursework focused on image processing, optoelectronics, and product design.
My studio art minor focused on printmaking and photography. I developed a strong design aesthetic, learned to take an idea and create a polished implementation, and developed the ability and vocabulary to articulate and critique visual ideas.
Biodiesel Production Research ENGAGE Fellow
I researched and produced an environmental impact assessment of on-campus biodiesel production processes and alternative fuel use, including supply chain analysis.
Interference Lithography Weiss Lab at Vanderbilt
I designed and ran experiments to develop a method for creating nanoscale optical gratings on silicon for biosensing applications using interference lithography. I also designed the test apparatus in CAD and fabricated it with a CNC machine.
Wind Turbine Modeling German Academic Exchange
As a DAAD RISE scholar, I developed wind turbine simulation for modeling alternative energy grid integration. My fellowship was sponsored by Christian-Albrechts-Universitat Zu Kiel.
