Personal Health Narrative

How do you visualize a personal health timeline? The things that go into medical charts are not the only important events in the narrative.

I created this concept illustration to explore how some of the changes that had the biggest effect on a person's subjective experience of health could be displayed in a narrative timeline. This piece uses my own data, recorded from 1996-2011.

The bubbles above the line are habits or activities I started doing regularly (reading 50+ books a year, writing every morning), or major life changes (marriage). The bubbles below the line are negative habits that I quit doing (driving a car, watching tv, drinking soda), and when I stopped doing them.

I gave a talk about many of the habit changes in this illustration.
